Necklift

When you have tried everything non surgical, they no longer give you the desired effects and you have reached the point where you need a more aggressive procedure then you start to fall into the category of a surgical neck lift. It is not to be taken lightly but is the definitive treatment.

As skin loses elasticity and there is loss of volume due to the ageing process, skin can begin to sag, resulting in the appearance of vertical bands, lines and wrinkles. If you lose a lot of weight you may be left with excess skin under the chin and around the neck area too. A separate neck lift may be sufficient to achieve the results you desire but it can be performed in conjunction with a facelift. As with any cosmetic procedure, your expectations should be realistic. The results of a neck lift surgery will depend on the elasticity of your skin and to what degree it has been affected by age, sun damage and loss of volume.

FAQ

The best candidate for a neck lift is a man or woman whose neck has begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well defined.

Following surgery it is advisable to keep your head elevated for at least a week. Scars can get wet with water only within 48 hours but do not rub the wounds. Most bruising disappears in a couple of weeks but residual swelling may last for months. Your appearance is generally presentable in 2 to 4 weeks but healing continues for up to a year. Avoid excessive neck turning movements and movements that give a feeling of pulling or tightness along the suture line for the first month. Some sutures will be removed after 7 days and your wound checked. The remaining sutures will be removed 10 days to 2 weeks later.

The surgeon who performed your surgery will see you after six weeks for a follow-up assessment and as often as required until you are fully recovered. It is vital that you attend all necessary postoperative appointments. You may need to take 2-3 three weeks off work.
