Acne Clear Aftercare

Below are some simple things that you should do on a daily basis to care for your skin. These steps may help reduce acne as well as lessen the side-effects of acne such as dry skin and acne scars.

Wash your face twice a day (no more) with warm water and a mild soap made for people with acne. Gently massage your face with circular motions. Don’t scrub. Overwashing and scrubbing can cause skin to become irritated. After cleansing, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends applying an over-the-counter lotion containing benzoyl peroxide. This will decrease oil and bacteria.

Do not squeeze pimples, as this can push infected material further into the skin, leading to more swelling and redness, and even scarring.

Touching your face can spread the bacteria that cause pores to become inflamed and irritated. To keep bacteria at bay, wash your hands before applying anything to your face, such as treatment creams or makeup.

Remove your makeup before you go to sleep. When buying makeup, make sure you choose brands that say “non-comedogenic” or “non-acnegenic” on the label. Throw away old makeup that smells or looks different from when you first bought it. Try to use mineral makeup.

Protect your skin from the sun. It may seem like a tan masks acne, but it is only temporary. A tan may worsen your acne, not improve it. Tanning also causes damage to skin that will eventually lead to wrinkles and increase your risk of skin cancer.

One other thing which can help is to make sure that you get enough sleep and make an effort to remove the stress in your life. Pimples often appear once your body is stressed, by getting adequate sleep you are able to help avoid this.
Some look at skin peels as a softer option with minimal downtime that they do not mind repeating in order to get the desired result. Skin peels will improve both the appearance and the health of your complexion. Whether you want to treat a specific area or all over your face; arms, hands and neck, skin peels can be used to:

• Decrease lines and wrinkles
• Increase skin tone and smoothness
• Remove sun or age spots and uneven pigmentation with repeated treatments
• Decrease pore size and regulate oily skin
• Slowly improve acne and acne scars.
• Brighter, fresher skin with overall softer glow
• Improve skin clarity
• Increase collagen formation
• Improve skin tone, smoother texture

FAQ

Acne Clear technology generates red or blue light pulses. This light is flashed on to the skin penetrating the tissue, the body then removes the damaged tissue leaving the skin fresh and more youthful. Acne Clear treats the damaged superficial layer of the skin, while delivering thermal energy to deeper tissue. Clinical studies are now available to measure the effect this energy has on collagen.

Reasonable results may be seen within a short time period, however, a course of treatments is recommended.

After Acne Clear treatments the following results may be seen: improvements in skin tone and texture, skin tightness, skin hydration and a reduction in pigmentation. The skin becomes smoother and firmer. There is a resulting reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

After a consultation we will determine an IPL treatment plan for each new patient, taking into account the severity of skin conditions being treated, as well as skin type. On average, 3-6 treatments are recommended.

Depending on the number of conditions being treated, and severity of the individual problem, a series of 4 to 6 treatment sessions may be recommended, scheduled at 4 week intervals. Each session usually lasts about 30 minutes, with patients returning to normal activity immediately afterwards. The patient may return to work the same day and resume all regular activities. Acne Clear treatments provide gradual, natural improvement with excellent long-term results.

By dividing the full program into several treatments the sessions provide gradual improvement with very low risk – and, it provides “no down time” feature that is greatly appreciated by our patients.

In addition to effectively treating multiple symptoms and locations in each session, the Acne Clear procedure is gentle, non-invasive and safe, requiring no downtime. In fact, some people even schedule their sessions during their lunch breaks.

The Acne Clear may cause slight swelling and redness in the treatment area, especially in thin or fragile skins. Any redness or soreness typically disappears within hours following the procedure.

In exceptional cases where more serious side effects occur, it is best to postpone further treatments until after the skin is completely healed.

The only preparation you will need to do is remove any makeup you may be wearing.

Please apply high SPF sunblock (a minimum of SPF30 but ideally SPF50) to protect your skin from direct sun exposure over the treatment period and for a minimum of 6 weeks after the last treatment.  Sun beds and sun bathing should be avoided.

A cold gel is applied to the skin to be treated and protective goggles are placed to protect your eyes from the light. The glass lens of the IPL hand piece is gently applied to the skin and light is delivered to the treatment area. The light treatment is often been described as a slight tap or on strong treatment sometimes even as having a rubber band flicked on to your skin.
