Pre-Liposuction Tips

First our cosmetic surgeon would put you through a pre op liposuction lab test to confirm your health status; part of this test would include your entire health history and most specifically your weight health history. You may be asked to discontinue certain drugs like aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs or herbal supplements two weeks prior to your liposuction surgery.

Liposuction Cosmetic Surgeries Procedure

  • Our cosmetic surgeon would generally take pre-op photos of the areas. Often our cosmetic surgeons will mark parts of your body using a marker while you’re standing to map out the exact areas that need to be treated. Fluid lines are part of the liposuction surgery that helps regulate the fluid levels during the process. You may also be placed on monitors to help your cosmetic surgeon keep track of your heart rate, blood oxygen levels, blood pressure etc.

  • Anesthetics are then administered to help increase your comfort level during liposuction cosmetic surgery. The surgery can also be performed using a combination of anesthetics and intravenous sedation. This depends on what our cosmetic surgeon thinks is best for you.

  • Liposuction involves multiple incisions to be made on your body, typically about one eighth to half an inch. These incisions will be well placed by our expert cosmetic surgeon, mostly to hide them in the natural creases of the body. If the treatment area for liposuction were large then there would be multiple incisions made on each treated area.

  • After this the fat is ready and prepared to be suctioned out, hollow metal tubes called cannulas are inserted through the incisions made. These cannulas are moved in a controlled back and forth motion to suction out the fat. The cosmetic surgeon will dislodge, breakup and suction fat from beneath your skin.

  • Your incisions are then closed with the help of surgical sutures. There may be placement of small tubes after liposuction to drain out excess fluid.

Post Liposuction Cosmetic Surgery Care and Tips

After your completion of the liposuction surgery you would be taken into a recovery area. Here you will be provided with a compression garment to help control the swelling on the treated areas and also help your skin get used to the new body shape. You can go home within a few hours of the liposuction surgery unless our cosmetic surgeon thinks it’s necessary to keep you overnight. It is important to not to subject your incision areas to abrasion, excessive force or motion during the healing period.

Recovery Time for Liposuction

Most people can resume their normal work after a few days. Make sure to avoid strenuous work, exercise or lifestyle for at least two to three weeks after the completion of liposuction cosmetic surgery. The length and comfort of your recovery from liposuction would depend on several variables like:

  • Treated areas

  • Size of the treated area

  • Techniques used

  • Your general health conditions

  • Liposuction performed as a single or a combination of other cosmetic surgeries.
