Are you considering a facelift surgery? Many people decide to get a facelift surgery for a number of reasons. If you are considering a facelift we at EA Clinic can help answer all your questions about what options are available. Some facelift options provide a very fast recovery and are more affordable. Other facelift options are more costly but give much longer lasting results. Either way we can help guide you through the process and help you make the best possible choice. There is no reason you have to look your age. With a facelift you can boost you confidence and see great results.

What to Expect With Facelift Surgeries

A facelift is a cosmetic surgery to improve facial features by repairing drooping skin on the jaw lines and removing wrinkles on the face and the neck. A facelift can repair signs of aging. It can also fix damage to skin and muscles caused by poor diet regime, smoking, drinking and drugs. Patients who feel that aging is having an effect on their facial skin are usually prime candidates to take up this type of cosmetic surgery.

Facelift Procedure

The facelift surgery is technically known as a rhytidectomy. In this cosmetic surgery, a small incision is made on a portion on the facial skin. The incision is usually done behind or around the bottom of the ear, and extends up to the hairline behind the neck. With this incision in place, the cosmetic surgeon tightens the facial tissues, and removes some of the deeper facial tissues if necessary. All damaged skin can be removed in this surgery. Once all the procedures are completed, the incision is then covered with sutures and left for healing. The whole surgery generally takes several hours, and in most cases also requires general anesthesia.

Prior to Facelift Surgery

Before the facelift surgery, the cosmetic surgeon will have to access the patient’s medical history. A complete examination of the facial bone structure and skin structure will have to done. The cosmetic surgeon will also determine the amount of tissue to be removed, and the position of the incision. If there are any wrinkles to be removed, these will be marked as well. Not all wrinkles can be removed, especially those around the eyes and the nose. The patient considering a facelift surgery must discuss the procedure as well as the expected results with one of our cosmetic surgeons, and must be aware of the risks associated with the surgery. Dr. Ed Anthony is one of leading cosmetic surgeon’s at EA Clinic.

Recovery After a Facelift Surgery

The healing time taken to recover after a facelift surgery depends from person to person. It is also dependant on the area of the face where the surgery has been performed. After the surgery, the patient’s face will have to be bandaged for healing. All bandages are usually left on for a couple of days. If the incisions were closed with stitches, these will remain for up to 10 days. There is also a possibility that the patient will experience pain and discomfort after the surgery. Due to this pain our surgeon may prescribe medication. Some swelling and bruises may remain visible for about 2 weeks. It is important to avoid smoking after facial surgery, as this will increase the chances of skin damage occurring again. Smoking also increases healing time post surgery, and can cause permanent scarring.

Risks of Facelift Surgery

As with any other cosmetic surgery, there are risks associated with facelifts as well. There can be complications during and after the surgery. These include tissue loss, damage to the nerve endings, blood clots near the incision, as well as bleeding and infections. Also, there is the risk that the facelift will not be the results that you had expected. It is important to discuss realistic expectations before the surgery with our cosmetic surgeon.
